Tide breath and colour meet here

Where waves break their white edges against patient stone

Green sea moss clings like vivid memory

Adele Merdjanic

Adele Merdjanic is an Australian oil painter whose vibrant, gestural brushwork infuses her landscapes and figurative scenes with a dynamic sense of movement and light.

Her practice, shaped by early creative exploration and formal training through TAFE and the National Art School in Sydney, where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting), reflects a deep connection to place and the emotional resonance of lived experience. She received Best in Entire Exhibition at the 2024 Newcastle Maritime Art Prize and, most recently, the winner of the Lake Art Award at the 2025 Museum of Art & Culture Yapang Art Prize.

Several of her paintings have been selected as semi‑finalists in multiple exhibitions and art prizes across Newcastle and the Hunter, with works held in private collections throughout the region.

Working both in studio and en plein air, Adele distills complex scenes into dynamic, impressionistic compositions that capture the shifting interplay of light, colour and atmosphere, offering a contemplative response to the local coastal environments and communities that inspire her.
